A plus A Gallery is pleased to announce the solo exhibition by
Enej Gala: Neverevereverevereverever learn, which presents a series of works created by the artist over the last two years between his studio in Dolanci (Slovenia) and London, where he currently resides to attend the Royal Academy of Arts.
Retracing the footsteps of Richard Teschner, a singular puppeteer
who worked in the first half of the 20th century between Prague
and Vienna, the exhibition takes its shape around the artificiality
of an imaginary world in order to thoroughly rethink the moment
in which the human condition has been stratified by new hierarchies and conflicting rhetorics.
Painting, sculpture, video and theatre figure, reveal intermediate
realities composed of tender symbiosis but also fallible worlds of
precarious inventions regularly dismembered. Puppets with severe
amorphisms await their turn while Sisyphus and Minotaur merge
into a single puppet trapped in the loop of a short film set in an enchanting Barbie pink world, but at the same time alien, automated as a dystopian peristalsis. Objects of drudgery like wheelbarrows become soft plush toys ready to take on another impossible load, sculptures of fake fur thatreveal the ambiguity of this material, which invented for pure pleasure through a polluting industrial process, is at the same time redeemed to save animals from being hunted down for their fluff.
Nevereverevereverever learn is a dialectical glitch that maintains
a healthy negativism for which one will never learn, but will not
stop trying. The exhibition proposes a physical and mental space
where making mistakes becomes a driving force, a circuit formed
by small loops, challenging the generalised incomprehension that
prevents learning to observe.
